Emmanuel...How sorely we need this new Advent.
Bruised reeds, we struggle to find light as we confront the darkness in our own hearts,
the shadows in our church and world.
In this rich season of expectancy, promise and mindful waiting,
Teach us anew how to watch for the Light, within and around us.
It would be so easy to slip into cynicism, despair and
bitterness as we gaze upon our brokenness.
Prompt us instead to be heralds of hope and seekers of "another way"
as we trust your Spirit working through us.
Protect us from frenzied outer activity and quiet our souls,
so that we do not miss the presence of the Bearer of all Light.
God-with-us, increase our hunger for you during these days of Advent.
